Leo Lavern Anway, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, July 5, 2010 at. Western Home Martin Center.  He was born on November 11, 1919 in Crider, Missouri, to Warren Adelbert and Lulu Mae (Williams) Anway. He lived most of his life in Cedar Falls and served in the US Army during WW II.   He married Mary Emma Fox on June 2, 1946 in Fairbank, Iowa. She preceded him in death October 5, 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Anway (partner, Betsy Zan), of Cedar Falls; two sons, Al (Vickie) Anway, of Roanoke, VA , and Galen (Schaen'ette) Anway, of Waterloo, and two grandsons, Doug and Jeff Anway.

For several years after service in WW II, Leo worked for Viking Pump, then he operated a landscaping business for the rest of his career, grading lawns, plowing gardens, and moving snow.  He was an accomplished guitarist and for many years was a member, along with Mary, of a succession of local bands.  Not only did he play guitar, he also built many creative stringed musical instruments, and occasionally repaired guitars.  In addition to all of these musical and woodworking talents, he was a graphic artist, drawing exquisite landscapes and animal scenes using pastel chalk.  He touched many lives in many ways.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; three brothers, Darwin, Alvin, and Virgil; two sisters, Lela (infant) and Lucille.

Funeral services will be 11: 00 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 at Finchford Community Bible Church, Burial will be in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with military honors by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation will be one hour before services on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Art Association, P.O. Box 1496, Waterloo, Iowa 50704.
