Listen to Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Wayne Brown, 78, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at UnityPoint Allen Hospital, surrounded by loving family.

Larry was born July 28, 1946 at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, to Lawrence Roy and Geraldine Mae (Rogers) Brown and graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1965. Larry served in the US Army, earning the rank of Sergeant, and worked for John Deere as a machinist for 30 years, retiring February 29, 1996. Larry met Susan Peters at a New Year's Eve dance on December 31, 1981, and the couple was married on August 27, 1982. He would often talk about how Susan loved the Lord and knew Jesus, and that's how he knew, that he too, could find the same joy and happiness in Jesus. Larry knew and loved the Lord, and enjoyed worship services at Nazareth Lutheran Church and Fresh Wind Worship.

Larry and Susan enjoyed visiting Europe, traveling throughout the US, and spending many winters in Texas. Their biggest joys came from their family, with trips to Wyoming, Minnesota, and many adventures in Iowa. Their grandchildren brought them even more joy, with sleepovers, quilting, fishing, baking, and camping. The couple faithfully worked for Children's Haven International in Texas for many years. Larry's hobbies included golfing, fishing, woodworking, reading his Bible, watching wrestling, and was a life-long Cedar Falls Tiger Football fan.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Susan; children, Bradley (Stephanie) Brown, Daniel (Shelly) Brown and Denise (Larry) Sears; grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Swanson, Terri (Noah) Packard, Shane (Macie) Sears and Rachael Sears; 6 great-grandsons; sister, Sheri (Clayton) Herman; God-given family, Randall and Betsy Chacon and their son, Benjamin; and extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Brown and Geraldine Brown Calvert; and daughter, Jacki Brown.

The memorial service for Larry will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Nazareth Lutheran Church (7401 University Avenue, Cedar Falls).  Visitation will be from 4:30-7:00 PM on Thursday, March 20 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home; resuming at 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church on Friday.  Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery with funeral honors rendered by the US Army and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.  Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Larry continues to give back even in death by being an organ donor.
