LAVINA E. BADERSCHNEIDER, was born December 7, 1906 near Klinger, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Kate (Neumann) Matthias. She married Ted Baderschneider on June 27, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Klinger, Iowa. They worked at the Klinger general store for 10 years then bought their own store at New Hartford and operated it for 11 years. After selling the store, Lavina became a full-time homemaker. Later, she and Ted moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, becoming members of St. John's Lutheran Church. There Lavina served on the altar guild. Ted preceded Lavina in death on October 2, 1974. She continued living at their home on Ellen St. until moving to the Lutheran Home in December of 1999. Lavina died Monday, August 14, 2000 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 93 years of age.
She is survived by her son, Pastor Victor Baderschneider of Mahomet, Illinois; two daughters, Wera B. Gahre of Fontana, California and Edith B. Liesener of Silver Springs, Maryland; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother, Vernon Matthias of Readlyn, Iowa.
Lavina is preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers, Fred, Ora and Clarence Matthias.
Funeral services were Saturday, August 19, 2000, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or Christian Crusaders.
