Lavern J Power

LaVern Joseph "Joe" Power, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday,  November 20, 2010, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center.  LaVern was born May 2, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ernest Leroy & Nellie Mabel (Grapes) Power.  He married Maxine Mae Jindrich November 7, 1948 in Waterloo.  She preceded him in death May 28, 2000.  LaVern graduated from East Waterloo High School, served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and retired as Captain with the Waterloo Police Department in 1977.  He was past Commander of Becker Chapman American Legion Post 138 in Waterloo and was President of Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers in 1977.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel J. (Carol) Power, of Cedar Falls, Mark L. (Debra) Power, of Ames, Iowa and Timothy C. (Angela) Power, of St. Louis, Missouri; and seven grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin & Gregory Power, Jenna & Connor Power, and Ashley & Brice Power.

Services will be 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with interment at 2:00 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
