LaVena Marie Mohling, 99, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Tripoli, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the
Western Home Communities Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. She was born August 19, 1916 near Harvard, Nebraska, the daughter of William George and Anna Marie (Nowka) Bieck. LaVena married Adolph Ferdinand William Mohling on November 11, 1936 in Hastings, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1980. LaVena graduated from Harvard, Nebraska High School in 1934. She devoted her life to raising and providing for her family of five children and their families. LaVena farmed with her husband and parents for many years and worked for Tripoli Community Schools for 22 years. She was very involved in the church with its Circles and quilting activities, first with Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli and then with Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. LaVena enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, sewing, needlework and volunteered as an eldercare companion.
She is survived by three sons, Robert (Marilyn) Mohling of Broomfield, Colorado, Gerald (Judith) Mohling of Cedar Falls and Allan (Cynthia) Mohling of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Beverley (David) Dirksen of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Linda (Curtis) Wilson of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
LaVena was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother Paul Bieck and his wife Pauline.
Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial 3:15 pm Saturday at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in rural Tripoli, Iowa. Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Western Home Foundation. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
