Larry Lee West

Larry Lee West, 85, Cedar Falls, died Thursday, December 11, 2025 at his home under the care of UnityPoint Hospice.

Larry was born July 21, 1940 in Waterloo to the late Charles Lester and Anna Blubell (Fink) West.  He graduated from New Hartford High School and then enlisted in the US Army honorably serving from 1959-62 earning the rank of SP5.  Larry married the love of his life, Marilyn Jo McCarthy, on June 13, 1964 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Over the years, Larry continued serving his community as a firefighter with the Waterloo Fire Department for 30 years and also farmed with Marilyn for many years before retiring.

Being a dedicated family man, Larry thoroughly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter and looked forward to his Thursday coffee time with his brother and yearly family reunions.  Larry also enjoyed spending time mowing his yard, gardening and woodworking.  He also liked supporting the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilyn; children, Cindy (Patrick) Swan of Katy, Texas and Michael West of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Dylan, Jessica and Abby; great-granddaughter, Aria; siblings, Donald West, Barbara Schoerman and June (Bob) Hansen; and extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by siblings, Norma Jean Johnson and Bill West; sisters-in-law, Carol West and Lois West; brothers-in-law, Ronald Schonerman and Laurence Johnson.

Larry's Celebration of Life will be from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Dahl-Van-Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.  He will be inurned at Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a future charitable donation in his memory.
