Larry S. Hamilton, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born March 17, 1941 in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the son of Lawrence William and Leah (Scott) Hamilton. Larry married Barbara Lamb on August 12, 1967 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany in the early 1960's, and earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. Larry was a teacher for many years at Orange High School, Central High School and East Waterloo High School. He was a member of the Iowa Democratic Party, the Panther Wrestling Boosters, Black Hawk Tennis Club, and Pheasant Ridge Golf Course. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hamilton, of Cedar Falls; a son, Marc Hamilton, of Des Moines; a daughter, Keri (Neil) Havlik, of Marion, Iowa; three grandchildren, Eli, Emma and Owen Havlik; two brothers, Steve (Julie) Hamilton of Colorado and John Hamilton of Hampton, Iowa, and a sister, Ardith Kirchhoff, of Columbia, Missouri. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jay Hamilton, and a nephew, Chad Hamilton. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 30, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, with inurnment at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
