Larry Dean Geving, 86, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2026. He brought to all those around him a sense of peace, joy and support.
He was the youngest of three children born to George and Blonda Geving on May 23, 1939. He was raised in Spring Grove, MN and shared many stories over the years of growing up in “The Valley” on the family farm. It was at Spring Grove High School, where he met his forever love, Lois Gjere. On June 13, 1958, they were married in Decorah IA at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage, prior to Lois’ death in 2019. They were blessed with five children, Rick (Theresa) of Overland Park, KS, Holly (Marty) Postel of Cedar Falls, Randy (Ila) Geving of Lincoln, NE, Heidi Alexander of Cedar Falls, Rory (Nicol) Geving of Cedar Falls. They have 14 Grand Children, 28 Great-Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Larry was employed by John Deere as a machinist for 32 years, retiring in 1992. Larry had a full life raising his family. He enjoyed bowling, card club, gardening and tinkering in the garage. Larry and Lois traveled extensively for many years in their RV. They loved to dance, meet new people and genuinely have fun and live life to the fullest.
In the Fall of 2019, he and his beloved dog, Bentley moved to Windermere at the Western Home Communities. He truly enjoyed his time there. It was there that he rediscovered his competitive nature. He participated in cards, pool, cornhole and most social events offered. He enjoyed following the Hawkeyes, Packers, and women’s basketball.
His laughter and tight hugs will be forever remembered in our heart. His Grandchildren will forever miss Grandpa’s whisker rubs.
Proceeded in death by his wife Lois, parents, brother Gerald Geving, sister Joan Sherburne, son-in-law Ron Alexander and granddaughter Makaela Geving.
Services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 24 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution to Larry’s favorite charities.
