LARRY DEAN BRUHN

60, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, of complications from a pulmonary embolism. Larry was born June 15, 1945 at Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Ernest & Thelma (Petersen) Bruhn. He married Carol Luitjens on May 15, 1965 at Dike United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1999. Larry graduated from Dike High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He farmed for 20 years and was a Gas Service Technician for 36 years, retiring on May 1, 2004. Larry was a very active member of Fredsville Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, David (Katie Jo) Bruhn of Ely, Iowa; two daughters, Laura (Byron) Dove of Dike, Iowa and Jennifer (Jeremiah) Lehr of New Hartford, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Ashtyn & Carlee Dove, Brandon & Kevin Bruhn, and Taylor, Haley & Chase Lehr; one brother, Jim (Donna) Bruhn of Dike and one sister, Jane (Chuck) Christensen of Dike; three step-sisters, Dixie Maas of Walker, Iowa, Barb (Vernon) Lovell of Cedar Falls and Pat (Craig) Lovell of Allen, Texas, and a step-brother, Jerry (Lavelle) Fisher of Moville, Iowa. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his stepmother, Elsie Fisher Bruhn, his grandson, Brady Dove, and one sister, Sally Kay Bruhn.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Dike. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the "Reach for the Day Neuroblastoma Fund".
