L. ELAINE WALTERS of Cedar Falls, Iowa died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. Elaine was born 24 September 1929 in Stuart, Adair County, Iowa to Harold & Lenora (Ripley) McPherson.  She attended Stuart Public school until 1942, when the family moved to West Des Moines, Iowa.  She attended Valley High School and graduated in 1947 where she was an All-State High School Basketball Guard.  She won the Rotarian Club Oratorical Medal at commencement.  Elaine was united in marriage to John E. Walters, 4 November 1951 at the West Des Moines Methodist Church.  They lived in Des Moines for a short period of time and in 1952 moved to Waterloo, Iowa.  She was involved in many activities at Nazareth Lutheran Church, P.E.O. Chapter OF, Friends of the Waterloo Library and enjoyed playing bridge. Survivors include her husband, John: three sons, Tom C. (Pat) of Bettendorf, Iowa, J. Scott (Connie) of Wausau, WI, Bradley P. (Kathy) of Iowa City, Iowa, six grandchildren; one sister, Marcelyn (Kurt) Urban of Spirit Lake, Iowa, nieces and nephews, other family members and a host of friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Virgil McPherson and Bernard McPherson.

Services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.  Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice or Christian Crusaders.
