Kirk Ivan Dietrick

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a Ride!"

Kirk Ivan Dietrick, 65, of Cedar Falls, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at his home.

Kirk was born in Waterloo on January 11, 1958, the son of Thomas and Jean (Danielsen) Dietrick. He graduated from Dike High School in 1976 and began working for the family business, Dietrick Turkey Farms, in Cedar Falls.

Kirk was very much a free spirit and loved having a good time. He lived life to the fullest; hard and fast. "Drive fast and take sharp curves," was how Kirk told you goodbye and take care. He enjoyed live music and traveling to see his favorite artists. He also loved his grandkids, and was nicknamed "Grandpa Candy" for always having an endless supply of candy available. Kirk will be remembered for his generosity and having a huge heart.

Kirk is survived by his children, Lacie Gardner and Dexter Dietrick, both of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Kiana, Masen and Ivie Gardner; sister, Karen (Les) Blount of Cedar Falls; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Chantelle Dietrick in infancy.

A visitation will be held from 5-6:30pm, Friday, September 29 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Kirk's funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 30 at 1pm with a visitation an hour prior at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
