Pastor Kevin D. McBride, 67, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. He was born in Des Moines on August 6, 1959, son of Joe and Gay (Scroggs) McBride. Kevin graduated from West High School with the Class of 1978. On October 27, 1979, he was married to Mary Jeanne Webber at Sacred Heart Church of Waterloo. Kevin and Mary moved to Florida in 1984, then to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend Rhema Bible Training Center. Following graduation in 1992, they returned to Florida until they felt called to move to Waterloo to begin a new church, the Waterloo Worship Center (recently rebranded as Destiny Church).
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Joe E. McBride, Jr.; and his brother, Kyle McBride. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 47 years; sons, Joe (Ellie) McBride of Dike and Zach (Katie) McBride of Waterloo; grandchildren: Jake Jensen, Presley and Jude McBride and Mack and Tucker McBride; mother, Gay McBride of Waterloo; siblings, Kimmy (Mark) French of Waterloo and Kent (Lovely) McBride of Waterloo; his many beloved nieces and nephews; and his beloved companion, Ruger the golden retriever.
Kevin’s Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Destiny Church of Cedar Falls with Visitation the evening prior from 5-7:00 pm also at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Family for future designation.
For a season, Kevin and Mary had a cabin on the Wapsi River where they enjoyed family time. He was an avid cyclist and participated in RAGBRAI through the years. Kevin enjoyed playing and watching hockey and he was a grill master. He had a heart for mission work that led to connections and work in Madagascar and France. But Kevin most cherished his family and found enormous pride in his sons and grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
