Kathy Jeanne Thompson

Kathy Jeanne (Huggins) Thompson, 84, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Deery Suites Western Home Communities.

She was born to Earl A. Huggins and Betty J. VanSickle on April 27, 1942 in Waterloo. She married Tom M. Thompson on July 16, 1960. She pursued her nursing degree at Hawkeye College in 1976. She worked at Covenant Medical Center and then Drs. Hedican and Bloom OBGYN Specialists and retired in 2004 from Drs. Rellihan, Weno and Hines office.

She is survived by her children, James (Kathy A.) Thompson of Waverly and Kris (Luke) Schmitt of Charles City; grandchildren, Alex Johnson of Waterloo, Katie Johnson of Waterloo, Marshall Schmitt of Des Moines, Maverick (Anna) Schmitt of Cedar Falls, Justin (Linsey) Tuitjer of Waterloo and Logan Jamieson of Waverly; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Callan, Lola, Dexten, Aubree and Riley; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years; parents; daughter, Shelly Thompson; grandson, Adam Jacobson; and sister, Pam Mythaler.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. Inurnment at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in Kathy’s memory.
