Kathleen Elizabeth French, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born April 10, 1929 in St. Paul, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Kathryn (Steffensmeier) Panther. Kathy married Edward J. French on January 10, 1948 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1977. Kathy was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and worked at AT&T for thirty-six years. She was past president of Local Pioneers of America and past president of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary #49. Kathy was past Department of Iowa AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary president and was a loyal supporter of the AMVETS Riders Chapter 49. She was also a member of the Visiting Nurses Association and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Kathy was a dedicated volunteer for AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary #49, contributing countless volunteer hours and helping to raise funds for the Auxiliary projects. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow into amazing adults. Survivors include two sons, Randy (Leticia) French of El Paso, Texas and Tony (Cyndi) French of Finchford, Iowa; a daughter, Beth (Barry) Remington, of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Christopher French, Kade Yanda, Amanda French, Danielle French & Andrea French; six step grandchildren, David Lozano, Francis & Linda Dominguez, Rochelle (Justin) Penwell, Shannon (Rich) Rupert & Chris Remington; four great grandchildren and seventeen step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; two sisters, Sr. Theresa Panther of Madison, Wisconsin and Pauline Lambert of Missoula, Montana, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Panther. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a daughter, Marcia French; seven brothers, Raymond, Bill, Bernard, Melvin, Harold, James & Joseph Panther; a brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:30 pm Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 6:00 pm Cedar Falls AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary service will be conducted.
