Karoline "Karli" Rethmeier

Karoline K. "Karli" Rethmeier, 91, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. She was born March 9, 1925 in Berg, Germany, the daughter of Hans and Maria (N ö ss) Petras. Karli married Russell O. Rethmeier on January 22, 1949 in Littleport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2002. Karli went to school in Germany and worked as a seamstress for several years in Waterloo. Later, she was a clerk at Black's Dept. Store in Cedar Falls and then Donaldsons/Carson-Pirie-Scott Dept. Store in Waterloo.

Karli is survived by two sons, Roger (Debby) Rethmeier of Springfield, Missouri and Bill (Ok Hui) Rethmeier of Vine Grove, Kentucky; a daughter, Judy (Jim) Bartholomew, of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren, Heather, Marisa, Munsoo, Michelle, Jennifer, David, Debby, Lisa and Laura; 17 great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Jacob, Jade, Ella, Caden, Dylan, Davis, Dawson, Matthew, Alex, Andrew, Reagen, Trevor, Allison, Jacob, Munsoo, Jr. and Hailey, and a special nephew, Lucian (Carrington) Petras, and their daughter, Sera (Chris) Widener, and granddaughter, Chloe Widener.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a great grandchild, Savannah; a brother, JoHann Petras and a sister, Mariele Goodwin.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Cass Township Cemetery in Strawberry Point, Iowa . Visitation will be 4—6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
