Karen K. Petersen, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. She was born March 31, 1917 in Guthrie Center, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Ellen (Hansen) Christensen. Karen married Harry Petersen on April 11, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2003. Karen was a graduate of Albia High School and Gates Business College in Waterloo. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and the Women's Circle. Survivors include two sons, Harry (Cindy) Petersen, Jr. and Philip Petersen, both of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Becky Vauthier of Waterloo, Audrey Petersen of Cedar Falls, and Annette (Dennis) Madiska of Berthoud, Colorado; five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Delmar) Danielsen, of Cedar Falls, and a sister-in-law, Elda Riegel, of Loveland, Colorado. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a grandson, Matthew Madiska; three brothers, Clayton, Fred and Paul Christensen; a sister, Margaret Christensen, and a son-in-law, Jerry Vauthier. Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:00 pm Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and 910 am Wednesday at NewAldaya Lifescapes Chapel, Cedar Falls.
