Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Judith Kay Christensen announces her sudden passing on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the age of 86.

Judy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dennis, of 66 years; children, Dave (Paula) Christensen of Cedar Falls, Steve (Beth) Christensen of Phoenix, AZ, Tanya (Mitchell) Kirkpatrick of Cedar Falls, and Dan (Diane) Christensen of Des Moines; grandchildren, Tashana (Dr. Hamilton) Wells, Dr. Kendra (Chase) Perkins, Aaron Kirkpatrick, Brittany (Nate) Backes, Aubree Kirkpatrick, Casey Christensen, Trevor Christensen, Drew Christensen and Chloe Christensen; great-grandchildren, Lilah (13), Elijah (10), Ezekiel (9), Vaida (7), Maya (7), Hillman (1), and Ruth (3 months); and many beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ruth Benton; and her brother, Tom Benton.

Judy was born in Waverly on June 13, 1938.  She enjoyed playing the piano and shared her talent in high school, church, and at home with family throughout her life. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class in 1956 from Finchford Consolidated High School, and then went on to study business at Wartburg College. She met the love of her life, Dennis, on a blind date when she was just 15 years old, and married him on March 22, 1958 at the First Methodist Church of Janesville. She worked alongside him managing the family business Dennis C. Christensen & Sons Concrete & Masonry up until last year when they retired.

Dennis and Judy shared a beautiful life together. They spent their time wintering in Phoenix, AZ, where she enjoyed the desert scenery, the sunshine, family and friends. They put thousands of miles on their Thunderbird cars together traveling as members of the Thunderbird Nest to different gatherings across the country. In the Cedar Valley, you could always catch them together on one of their routine outings at their favorite restaurants.

Judy always had a way of making others feel special, whether it was a text or phone call, a note left by the door, or making sure she always had your favorite treat on hand when you came to visit. She carried pictures around in her purse as she was proud to show off those she loved. She was affectionately known as "Gramie" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She created beautiful memories for them that fostered a deep love and connection between cousins, aunts and uncles that will last a lifetime. Her legacy will live on through those who love her and future generations to come.

Judy took pride in her family and was happiest when they were all together. It is with grateful hearts that a majority of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were in town the weekend before her passing and spent much cherished time with her.

Per Judy's wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
