Judd Eastman Truax, 89, of Cedar Falls, passed away at Thuesen Cottage of Western Home Communities on Sunday, January 7, 2024. He was born January 16, 1934, in Brandon, Iowa, son of Linzy George and Iva Beryl (Eastman) Truax. Judd graduated from Brandon Consolidated High School, then served in the US Naval Reserve from 1951 to 1959 with active duty from 1954 to 1956. He received his undergraduate degree in 1959 from the University of Iowa, during which time he played in the Hawkeye Marching Band, and earned his law degree in 1962. Judd married Evelyn Jean Kuhn on December 27, 1958, at the Methodist Church in LaPorte City. They came to Cedar Falls in 1962 when he began work as an attorney for Jacobsen Law Firm. He served as Assistant County Attorney for 3 years and then established his own law office where he practiced until May 2020, while also serving as Cedar Falls City Attorney for 34 years. Judd was a member of the Cedar Falls Rotary Club, Black Hawk County Bar Association, Co-Founder of the Cedar Falls Boxing Club, Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and many other community organizations. He was one of the original members of the Saints Dixieland Jazz Band and one of the founders of the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival. In his spare time, Judd enjoyed spending time with family, attending Hawkeye sporting events, golfing and listening and playing music.
Judd was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, William Judd Reinart; siblings: Larry, Jake and Thomas Truax and Sally Schmitz; niece, Cindy Garwood; nephew, Robert Truax. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn; two daughters: Jacqueline Truax and Susan (Scott) Reinart both of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren: Katie (Jeff) Cornelius, Zach Nesvik, Daniel Reinart and Samuel Reinart; brother, Mark Truax of Marion; and beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Judd's Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at First Christian Church, Cedar Falls with Visitation from 6-8 pm Thursday January 11 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Burial with Military honors to follow at Greenwood Cemetery of Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Truax Family Scholarship that Judd and Evelyn established for Marching Band students at the University of Iowa, the Will Reinart Determination Scholarship through the University of Northern Iowa Foundation, or First Christian Church in Cedar Falls.
