Juanita L. Flanscha, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She was born January 8, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Lydia (Garland) Wolf. Juanita married Marcus "Mike" Flanscha on May 15, 1953 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1994. Juanita graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School and from Waterloo East High School in 1946. She was a color artist at Black's Photo Studio, then a jewelry designer at Deyo & Company Jewelry Manufacturing. Later she worked at Asquith Jewelry. Juanita and her husband purchased the store in 1978 and she worked there until the store closed in 1997. She was a gifted artist and jewelry designer. Juanita designed and hand crafted the Black Hawk County Bicentennial medallions in 1976. She will be remembered for all the many unique, one of a kind pieces of fine jewelry she designed. Juanita was a member of College Hill Lutheran Church. She had been a member of the Painting club at the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls, and was a former PEO member. Juanita loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Michael "Mike" (Karan) Flanscha and Mark (Jean Ann) Flanscha, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Laurie (Drew) Rogers, of Greene, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jake (Jaime) Flanscha, Nick Flanscha, Maria (Lyle) Mathers, Mark (Kimberly) Rogers, Megan (Sam) Pape, Michael Flanscha; and ten great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Chrysta Wolf, of Waterloo, and two "granddaughters" who were foreign exchange students, Corinne Schaefli of Steg, Switzerland and Christina Bogacz of Dresden, Germany. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, Wilbur, Donald and Dick Wolf; two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Maranda Rogers, and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Dorothy Wolf. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2014, at College Hill Lutheran Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
