Joyce Rae "Sally" Kurt

Joyce Rae "Sally" Kurt, 83, of Waterloo, died at home Friday, November 4, 2016. She was born May 6, 1933 in La Porte City, Iowa, the daughter of Chester and Muriel (Parsons) Harmon. Sally married Kenneth W. Kurt on November 18, 1955 in New Hartford, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1987. Sally was a 1951 graduate of New Hartford High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). She worked for the United States Postal Service for over 25 years in New Hartford and later Waterloo, retiring in 1992. Sally was a member of Linden United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her son, Kevin (Jenny) Kurt, of Independence, Missouri; two grandchildren, Rita (Steve) Komers of Camdenton, Missouri and Kevin William (Felicia) Kurt of Charles City, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Tyler Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Anthony and Laryn Komers of Camdenton, Missouri and Ethan Kroeze of Clarksville, Iowa, and a good friend, Diane Wagner, of Waterloo.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents and husband; an infant daughter, Leah Marie Kurt; a brother, C. Kenneth Harmon, and three sisters, Naomi Bolton, Helen Harken-Briden and Hazel Glassel.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, MAY 27, 2017 , at Linden United Methodist Church in Waterloo, with lunch and fellowship following the service.  Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford. Memorials may be directed to the church or UnityPoint Hospice.
