Jon Michael Rosenberg, 66, of Cedar Falls, passed away at MercyOne/Covenant Medical Center surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. He was born in Waupun, Wisconsin, on August 9, 1959, son of Rev. H.F. William and Greta (DeKoster) Rosenberg. Jon graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the Class of 1977 and UNI with both Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in December of 1982. He met the love of his life SuzAnne Garcia online and they built a beautiful life together for 23 years. Jon worked for forty years at Crystal Distribution Services in Waterloo where he started out as an ice-route delivery driver and grew into the role of Plant and Refrigeration Engineer. He was a true jack of all trades in both electrical and mechanical systems until his retirement in January during his hospital stay.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Randal Wayne Rosenberg; and those pups that have crossed the rainbow bridge including Ozzie, Magic and Ivy. He is survived by his life partner, SuzAnne of Cedar Falls; children: Jessica (Ben) Cooper of Cedar Falls, Michael (Jessica) Rosenberg of Ankeny, Luis (Jenna) Garcia of Waterloo and Marco (Alleena) Garcia of Owatonna, MN; grandchildren: Hadley, Tate, Aynsley and Tallia; sisters, Joan (Richard) Lindaman of Humboldt and Terry (Jim) Poe Buschkamp of Waterloo; four nephews and one niece; and his Standard Schnauzer fur babies: Phantom, Spirit, Ivy, Flicka, Dingo plus many more four-legged friends living in their forever homes.
Jon's Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, February 16, 2026, with Visitation one hour prior all at Orchard Hill Church of Cedar Falls. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo Kennel Club for the purchase of ribbons and rosettes for their annual dog show.
Jon and SuzAnne were passionate about Standard Schnauzers, showing and breeding them for close to 50 years through Von Rose Standard Schnauzers. They always had representatives of the breed in their home, including Phantom who was Best in Show at the International Dog Show in 2017. Additionally, Jon served as President of the Waterloo Kennel Club. But Jon was that rare individual who could do it all. He could fix just about anything even those that others tried and failed. Jon enjoyed plants and flowers and used his creative mind to design gorgeous landscaping and shared his amazing artistic skills by creating beautiful pencil drawings that were auctioned off for the Standard Schnauzer Club of America. He enjoyed researching his family genealogy, and also helped SuzAnne with her family tree. Jon also loved holiday traditions, and fashioned custom holiday decorations for his family every year including this past Christmas despite his failing health. Above all else, he was a gentle soul who always put others first and treasured his family-both humans and dogs.
