Jon Thomas Crews, 70, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, April 6, 2017. Jon was born on October 30th, 1946 in Waterloo, the son of Thomas Crews & Burdene Niewoehner Crews. He married Ronelle Langley on December 31, 2005.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ronelle; daughter Jenni (Jason) Gerken of Neenah, WI; sons, Ryan (Vanessa) Crews of Skokie, IL and Michael (Natalie) Crews of Milledgeville, GA. He was a revered stepfather to Lindi Roelofse of Cedar Falls, Rouxle (Craig) Vana of Dike and David Langley of Cedar Falls. He was grandfather to Sophie, Max, Naya, Adalynn, Skye, Linelle and Natalie. He was also survived by two brothers; Chuck Crews of Columbia, MO, Carl (Meredith) Crews of Charleston, SC; and a sister, Mary Colburn of Council Bluffs and his former spouse Christine (Stan) Larsen, mother of Jenni, Ryan & Michael. He was predeceased by his parents.
Jon graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1965, received an appointment to West Point, but after two years, he transferred to UNI and received a BA in Social Science and an MA in History in the 1970's and an MBA in 1991.
At age 24, he became one of our nation's youngest mayors, a position he held on and off for 30 years. As a leader and as a citizen, it's clear that Jon left a legacy of love to the people of his city, who will continue to reap the benefits for many years to come.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at Orchard Hill Church, with visitation 2:00 p,m, to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, both in Cedar Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Love Inc, Job Foundation, Cedar Valley Hospice, or any charity of own choice.
