Cedar Falls ~ John E. Walters, 80, of Coralville, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo and Cedar Falls, died from complications of Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. He was born March 15, 1927 in Independence, Iowa, the son of Leonard A. and Helen (Elliot) Walters. John married L. Elaine McPherson on November 4, 1951 in West Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2003. John graduated from Waterloo West High School and served with the US Navy during WW II. He attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI), Iowa State University, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a business degree. John worked for and later owned the family business, Walters Farm Management. He also was a professional musician, playing both the saxophone and clarinet. John was a member of both the Cal Meyer Orchestra in Waterloo and the Skyliners in Ames, Iowa. He was a member of the Waterloo Rotary Club, Waterloo American Legion Post 138, and American Farm Managers.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (Pat) Walters of Bettendorf, Iowa, Scott (Connie) Walters of Richmond, Virginia, and Brad (Kathy) Walters of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Brian Walters, Sara (Chris) Donlin, Jennifer (Luke) Lawson, David Walters, Calynn Walters and Natasha Overholtzer; a great granddaughter, Zoie Lawson, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kurt and Marcelyn Urban.

John was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with interment at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to The Alzheimer's Association, East Central Iowa Chapter, www.alz.org/eci .
