John W Sorenson

DR. JOHN W. SORENSON was born November 25, 1946 at Emmetsburg, Iowa, the son of Walton J. and Margaret M. (Place) Sorenson. He married Carol Brandt on June 6, 1969 at Tama, Iowa.  John was employed at the University of Northern Iowa for three years, Southwestern Community College, Creston, Iowa for seven years, and most recently, Hawkeye Community College, Waterloo, Iowa for twenty six years. For several years he served as Dean of Applied Science and Technology at HCC. In addition, John served in the United States Army for two years at Fort Hood, Texas.  He went on to earn his BA, MA, EDS, EDD degrees, all from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa.  John died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, at 59 years of age.

He is survived by his wife Carol Sorenson of Waterloo, Iowa; one son, Michael Sorenson of Fredericksburg, Iowa and one daughter, Rachel Sorenson of Chillicothe, Missouri; two sisters, Mary (Doug) Glasnapp of Lawrence, Kansas and Carol Sorenson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. John was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were 10:30 am Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, also in Cedar Falls.  Memorial may be directed to the John & Carol Sorenson scholarship fund at Hawkeye Community College, Cedar Valley Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
