John F. Shephard, III, 50, of Dike, Iowa, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born August 6, 1966 in Los Angeles, California, the son of John F. and Mary (Martin) Shephard, Jr.  John married Angie Walter on March 12, 1993 in Waterloo. He was a 1984 graduate of Cedar Falls High School, attended the Brown Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he studied broadcasting and journalism, and attended Hawkeye Community College where he studied computer programming.  John was a computer programmer for many years at Martin Brothers Distributing.  He loved music, playing guitar, fishing and was a wonderful father to his children.

John is survived by his three sons, Jeremy Shephard of Newton, Iowa, Travis Shephard of Waterloo and Alex Shephard of Cedar Falls; his father, John F. (Angie) Shephard, Jr. of Cedar Falls and his mother, Mary (Kim) Rhoades of Cedar Falls; his brother, Scott (Kim Sprenger) Shephard, of Iowa City, Iowa; Andrea Gotta, the mother of Jeremy; and Angie Walter, mother of Travis & Alex.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Roy and Elizabeth Martin, and his paternal grandparents, John F. and Carolyn Furst Shephard, Sr.

Services will be private. Visitation will be 5:30—7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Rock & Roll Foundation, Iowa Heritage Foundation, and Black Hawk County Conservation. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
