John Rider

John Carol Rider, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. He was born August 17, 1931 in Galesburg, Missouri, the son of Roscoe and Bonnie (Brown) Rider. He married Barbara Ellen "Sally" Gillard in 1952 in Laramie, Wyoming. She preceded him in death in 1967. He married Dianne Bigler August 15, 1968 in Cedar Falls and they were later divorced. He then married Linda Finical in 1987 in Waterloo and she preceded him in death in February 2009. John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received his Master's Degree in Fine Arts. John was a Commercial Artist and Graphics Art Instructor at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. He was an Eagle Scout and a Scout Master. John is survived by four sons, Mike (Linda) Rider of Gibbon, Minnesota, John (Amelia) Rider of Cedar Falls, David A. (Renee) Rider of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Nate (Jen) Rider of Shawnee, Kansas; three daughters, Jenny (John) Nehs of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Diane (Ron) Bremner of Cedar Falls, and Shannon (Jerome) Hilscher of Clive, Iowa; one step-son, Matt (Cassie) Finical, and two step-daughters, Amy (Ryan) Roach, and Elizabeth Burgess, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Trinity Bible Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and also one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
