John A. Lilly

John A. Lilly, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. He was born September 1, 1933 in Cedar Falls, the son of Paul Gigliotta and Thelma (Lawrence) Lilly. John married Vera Frisch on January 5, 1957 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. John worked for 30 years in the foundry at John Deere & Company in Waterloo, retiring as a Supervisor in 1985. He was a long-time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a long-time Chicago Cubs fan. John was an avid gardener and woodworker.

John is survived by his wife, Vera Lilly, of Cedar Falls; a son, Joseph (Rachel) Gigliotta of Spring, Texas; three daughters, Susan (Manuel) Lilly-Hernandez of Dallas, Texas, Sarah (Jim) Myers of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Carrie (Oliver) Lilly-Jones of Corinth, Texas; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and a brother, Joseph Lilly, of Van Cleave, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ellen Lilly; three sisters, Margaret Tharp, Rosemary Matthias, Bernadine Woods, and a brother, Thomas Lilly.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3—6:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 6:00 p.m. Vigil Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before service at the church.
