John Van Lengen, 101, of Janesville, Iowa, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. John was born August 12, 1916 in Big Stone, South Dakota, the son of John & Dena (Conraads) Van Lengen. He married Gertrude Folkers August 31, 1938 in Waverly, Iowa. She preceded him in death December 30, 2001. John was the shipping foreman for Wagner Overhead Door, Chamberlain and Clopay for 37.5 years retiring in 1978 and was also a farmer.
Survivors include his son, John J. (Robin) Van Lengen of Janesville; two daughters, Dorothy Wilmot of Waverly and JoAnn (Richard) Gronowski of Cedar Falls, 13 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 46 great great grandchildren; one sister, Grace Knapp of Shell Rock, Iowa and one sister in law, Delores Folkers of Cedar Falls.
John was preceded in death by his wife; one son-in-law, Chuck Wilmot; five brothers, Albert, Ben, George, Paul & Henry Van Lengen; and four sisters, Dorothy Luchtenburg Ritter, Fannie Kroeze, Jennie Folkers and Hannah Hartgrave.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens with a luncheon following at the Riviera Roose Events Center in Janesville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service time Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
