John I Greene

John I. Greene, 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, December 30, 2011, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center. John was born June 28, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Charles "John" & Emo (Alder) Green. He married Helen Sundt August 5, 1949 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death February 2, 1995. John served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was employed at Rath Packing Company, Becker Roofing, and was a self employed carpenter. John was a great outdoorsman Survivors include two sons, John (Kathy) Greene, of Evansdale, Iowa and James Greene, of Anamosa, Iowa; two daughters, Jackey (Ben) Meighan, of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and Anna Wagner, of Waterloo; fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; one sister, Esther Stephens, of Waterloo; and his special friend, Norma Miller, of Waterloo. John was preceded in death by his parents and wife, one son, Larry John Greene; one son-in-law, Jeff Wagner; one grandson; and two sisters, LaVona Schrage and Virginia in infancy. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Waterloo with military honors conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, and for one hour prior to service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice.
