John Custer Glascock, MD, 79, passed away peacefully at Covenant Medical Center surrounded by his beloved family on January 25th. He was born May 25, 1933 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of David Albert and Marion Grover Glascock. Following graduation from Indiana State University, he completed his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. During his internship at Colorado University, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Kay Eggers, and they were married June 26, 1960. They then moved to St. Paul, MN where he completed his post-graduate training in anesthesia. Dr. and Mrs. Glascock relocated to Cedar Falls where he practiced anesthesiology at Allen Memorial Hospital from 1963 to 1988. While at Allen Hospital, he was Chief of Staff from 1978 through 1979. He was a member of Black Hawk County Medical Society, Iowa Society of Anesthesiologists, and The American Society of Anesthesiologists. He was active in his community including membership in the Cedar Valley Men's Garden Club, Cedar Valley Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, Metropolitan Chorale Board, and Applaud (Oster Regent Theatre). He also volunteered for service to Meals-on-Wheels, The Salvation Army, and radio station KUNI where he was named volunteer of the year in 1984. His philanthropic interests extended support to many Cedar Valley institutions including The Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, The University of Northern Iowa, and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls Recreation Department, Cedar Bend Humane Society, The Allen School of Nursing , and contributed to the revitalization of down town Cedar Falls. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Bryan (Lisa) Glascock, of Boston Massachusetts, Matt (Pooneh) Glascock, and Dan (Stacy) Glascock, both of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Carol (Craig) Weeks, of Phoenix, Arizona and Anne (Bob) Angeli, of Hartland, Wisconsin; twelve grand children, Winona, John Edward, and Cassidy, John, Elise, Lily, Farah, Mitchell, Dylan, Alex, Abby,and Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, Allen College of Nursing, or The Cedar Bend Humane Society. John's greatest and most heartfelt passion was his family. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Cedar Heights Community Presbyterain Church.
