John E. Franks, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at his home of natural causes.  He was born December 5, 1924 at Colesburg, Iowa, the son of Mikael and Margaret (Shappell) Franks.  John married Violet Morse on October 26, 1946 at Fayette, Iowa.  She preceded him in death on July 31, 2008.  John was a route driver for City Laundry in Oelwein and Highland Potato Chip Company.  Later he was employed in the Water & Gas Dept. at Cedar Falls Utilities, retiring in 1991, after twenty-two years of service.

Survivors include two sons, Eddie Franks of Woodward, Iowa and Mark (Kerri) Franks of Cedar Falls; a son-in-law, John Wild, of Waverly, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tony Wild, Cameron Franks, Jodie Franks, Brandon Lewis and Christopher Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Piper Wild and Apollo Wild; two brothers, Vernon (Dorothy) Franks of Wyoming, Iowa and Chester (Darlene) Franks of Hawkeye, Iowa; a sister, Margaret Hare of Downers Grove, Illinois, and two sisters-in-law, Burnice Franks of Lisbon, Iowa and Ester Morse of Oelwein.

John was preceded in death by his parents and wife; one daughter, Virginia Wild; two brothers, Charles and Donald (Mary) Franks, and a brother-in-law, Marty Hare.

Services will be 10:00 am Friday, August 20, 2010, at Cedar Falls Church of Christ, with burial at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, rural Hazleton.  Visitation will be 5—8:00 pm Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.  Memorials may be directed to Northeast Iowa Christian Service Camp, Bristow, Iowa.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .
