John B Denny

John B. Denny, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Bickford Cottage. John was born August 8, 1922 at Hudson, Indiana, the son of Dr. Emerson & Blanche (Blackburn) Denny. He married Shirley Jarman and they later divorced. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received his B.A. from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and retired from the Waterloo School District after 39 years of teaching.

Survivors include five sons, John (Gail) Denny, of Cedar Rapids, and Steve, Jim, Jeff, and Bob Denny, all of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Zach, Matt (Casey), Brett, Nicole, and Scott Denny; and four great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Denny, and one sister, Lois Gilley.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2009, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, and for one hour prior to service time Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Bickford Cottage or Cedar Valley Hospice.
