John Christensen

John "Johnny" Christensen, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.  He was born February 4, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Carl & Agnes (Hendersen) Christensen.  John married Alice Weers on May 17, 1957, in Cedar Falls.  They later divorced.  He worked for Martinson Construction in Cedar Falls for over 30 years, and was also a self employed mason.  John was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the Cedar Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He enjoyed his family and friends, and loved fishing at his cabin near Harper's Ferry, Iowa.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy (Craig) Warmuth and a son, Kevin (Mary Kay) Christensen, both of Independence, Iowa; four grandchildren, Ben "B.J." Shannon of Independence, Tanya (Johnny) Gates of Oelwein, Kara Christensen of Independence and Kurtis Christensen of Independence; a great grandchild, Kaden Shannon; two sisters, Rosie Christensen and Vera (James) Dow, both of Cedar Falls; and two stepsons, Scott (Tina) Bonorden and Mike Bonorden, both of Cedar Falls.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carl Christensen; two sisters, Esther Bandfield and Annette Minikus; his special friend, Bonnie Bonorden; and three brothers in law, Eldon Frisch, Lloyd Bandfield and Harvey Minikus.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls.  Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service at the funeral home.  A memorial fund will be established.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
