John F Aldrich

John Freeman Aldrich, Sr., 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at his home of natural causes. John was born May 29, 1924 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Daniel & Marion (Farnum) Aldrich. He married Avis Finberg July 9, 1949 at Bemidji, Minnesota. She preceded him in death August 11, 1996. John was a teacher and coach at Northern University High School for forty three years, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, John Freeman Aldrich, Jr., and Stephen (Heidi) Aldrich, both of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Deborah Hodge of Rutherfordton, North Carolina and Leanne Aldrich-Parrish of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Linsey (Ryan) Shultz, Luke (Whitney) Aldrich, Olivia Aldrich, Elizabeth Aldrich, Bailey White, Avrey Parrish, Nicholas (Neli) Hodge, and Morgan Hodge; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert (Louise) Aldrich of Rhode Island and Stephen (Sandy) Aldrich of Florida.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one daughter, Laurie Ann Aldrich; one son-in-law, Harold "Gomer" Hodge; one sister, Eleanor Dodge; and one brother, Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Nazareth Lutheran Church. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
