She worked at UNI before her retirement. She was also half owner of the Brass Bucket Antique Shop in Cedar Falls. She was a member of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, P.E.O. Chapter OF, Waterloo, Funtique Questors Club, and was a charter member of the Cedar Valley Danes.
Survivors include her husband; a son, William Dale Sindlinger (Ann Bergstrom), of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Anne Petrea (Neale) Lehmkuhl, of Bloomington, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Flores Sindlinger of Lake Oswego, Oregon: and six grandchildren: William Tucker and Alexandria Sindlinger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Erik Christian and Laura Petrea Lehmkuhl of Bloomington, Illinois; and Sarah Christine and Joseph Matthew Sindlinger of Lake Oswego, Oregon; a brother Robert (Jean) Beck of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Joan was preceded in death by parents; a son, Matthew Parker Sindlinger (2002); a grandson, Samuel Parker Sindlinger (2000); and her sister Betty Uris McGill (2005).
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Danish Immigrant Museum, Elk Horn, Iowa and Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church.
