Jess Grandon

Jess E. "Shorty" Grandon, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center. He was born January 24, 1920 in Finchford, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Jessie (March) Grandon. Jess married Zelma Peterson in July of 1970 in Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2001. Jess was a jockey for 27 years, worked for the City of Cedar Falls for 17 years, and worked at the National Cattle Congress Grounds in Waterloo for many years. He was a member of the Cedar Falls Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jess is survived by a daughter, Mickey; several grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Grandon, of Dike, Iowa; two sisters, Betty Ward of Cedar Falls and Wanda Boysen of Waterloo; a sister-in-law, Marge Grandon, of Janesville, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, Lynford "Jack", Walter and Milo Grandon, and a sister, Alberta Jepsen. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo.
