Jerry Slykhuis, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016, near Liberal, Kansas, along with his wife Jane. He was born December 2, 1943, at his family farm, near Knoxville, Iowa, the son of Martin H. and Agnes (Bensink) Slykhiis. After his mother's death, his stepmother, Wilma (Vander Hart) Slykhius helped raise him. Jerry was a teacher and basketball and golf coach at Cedar Falls High School for many years. He also was co director of Snow Valley, Iowa basket ball camp.

He is survived by two sons, Steve (Ian) Siegel-Slykhuis, of Glenn Cove, New York and Capt Matt (Johnni) Slykhuis, of Fort Wainwright, Alaska; four grandchildren, Joella, Asher, Aiken, and Jesse Slykhuis; three brothers, Bob (Nancy) Slykhuis, of Perrysburg, Ohio, Roger (Joyce) Slykhuis, of Newton, and Charlie (Jinny) Slykhuis, of Raleigh, Illinois; two sisters, Maxine (Clyde) Prichard, of Knowville, and Melody (Mike) Dejong, of Urbandale.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with visitation at Nazareth Lutheran church, Wednesday, December 28, from 4:00 p. m. To 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials, may be directed in Jane and Jerry's honor. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
