Jerry F. Dufel

Jerry F. Dufel, 84, of Hudson, Iowa, died Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.  He was born December 24, 1933 in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Martin and Mildred (Bradley) Dufel.  Jerry married Donna Gutknecht on January 6, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson.  He attended Zaneta and Reinbeck schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Jerry was a farmer for 50 years, retiring in 1996.  He was a member of Reinbeck American Legion Post 242 and Hudson AMVETS Post 82.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna Dufel, of Hudson; his son, Craig (Janet) Dufel, of Hudson; grandchildren, Brad (Cassie Anderson) Dufel, Josh (Brooke) Decker, Nick (Jenni) Decker and Angie (Chris) McDaniel; eight great grandchildren, Aubrey, Adeline & Cora Decker, Chase, Natalie & Matthew Decker and Sidney & Simon McDaniel; his brother, Roy Dufel, of Mission, Texas; his brother-in-law, Leonard Bauer, of Cedar Falls, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Susan and Clarence Gutknecht; three sisters-in-law, Doris (Dale) Clark, Alice (Edward) Brandhorst, Mary Bauer, and a brother-in-law, Bill (Thelma) Gutknecht.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Hudson.  Military honors will be conducted by Reinbeck American Legion Post 242 and Hudson AMVETS Post 82.  Visitation will be 4:30—7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour before service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church, Reinbeck American Legion Post 242 or Hudson AMVETS Post 82.  Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
