Jeffry Jon Fruchtenicht, 61, of Dubuque (formerly of Independence and Cedar Falls), died Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.
Jeffry was born February 15, 1963 in Waterloo to the late Harold Fruchtenicht and Donna (Martin) Fruchtenicht Golinveaux. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and earned a BA in Economics from UNI and attended the University of Iowa. Jeffry honorably served in the Army National Guard for over 20 years earning the rank of Major. During his service, he served as a helicopter pilot, tank commander, Calvary Troop Commander, S-3 Operations Officer, Armor Battalion Executive Officer and Divisional Plans Chief.
In civilian life, Jeff founded and operated Investment Center Inc for over 30 years. He started this as a single Investment Representative with no support personnel. Today he has grown it into a full service wealth management firm with 6 locations and a team of 13 that he truly adored. He had a dedication to excellence that was matched only by his genuine care of each individual. Investment Center was and will continue to be his passion and legacy.
Jeffry was an avid sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed the LA Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys. Affectionately known as the life of the party, there was always room for more family and friends. His love for boating and time on the water led them to create their forever home on the Mississippi alongside a loving community of friends and neighbors. Everyone was welcome from family, step, half, even random people at the store… his generous spirit loved to host.
He loved being a mentor and father figure to many, especially his nephew Chad when his sister passed and took pride in this role. His 5 grandsons knew him as Big Papa. His giving spirit did not end with family; Jeff and Brenda generously donated to orphanages they visited throughout the world as they traveled.
Jeffry is survived by the love of his life, Brenda "Brrr" Markey; her children Kelly Ann (Jonathan) and Adam (Brittany); Brenda's nephew, Mikel (Nicole); four-legged son, Scout; 5 grandchildren (and 2 bonus grandchildren); brother, Jerold "Jerry" (Teri) Fruchtenicht; sisters, Joni Fruchtenicht Claussen and Jill Fruchtenicht; nieces and nephews: Chad (Sarah), Phil (Terri), Amanda, Kati, Joe (Alyssa), Sara (Ian) and Cari (Abby) with more extended family and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and sister, Julie.
The funeral service for Jeffry will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 9 at Nazareth Lutheran Church (7401 University Ave., Cedar Falls). Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 8 at Nazareth Lutheran Church; resuming at 10:00 AM on Monday at the church until the time of service. Military rites will follow the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
