JEANNE E. SCHMIDT was born December 28, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Jens Peter and Karen (Hansen) Jensen. She married Hilmer J. Schmidt on January 24, 1943 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1986. Jeanne was a Registered Nurse, graduating from Allen School of Nursing in 1974. She worked as a Nursing Supervisor at Sartori Memorial Hospital and the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, retiring in 1992. Jeanne was a volunteer at the Sartori Hospital Auxiliary, the Cedar Falls Public Library, IPTV and the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was an avid quilter for the Lutheran World Relief. Jeanne died Monday, July 24, 2000 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 79 years of age.
She is survived by three sons, Robert W. Schmidt of Anchorage, Alaska, Richard Schmidt of O'Fallon, Illinois and Jeffrey C. Schmidt of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Nancy Zetlmaier of Vancouver, Washington and Kristi Schaefer of Oregon City, Oregon; six grandchildren, Robert H. Schmidt, Jonathon P. Zetlmaier, David W. Zetlmaier, Kylie Schmidt, Jessica Schmidt and Stephanie Schmidt, and one brother, James P. Jensen of Carroll, Iowa. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister, Katherine Borchardt.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Fredsville Lutheran Church near Cedar Falls, with burial at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home or Sartori Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
