Jeanette Marie Gebhardt, 81, of Waterloo, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. She was born in Charles City on August 6, 1943, daughter of Glenn and Vera (Funk) Lindell. Jeanette graduated from Greene High School in 1961, then attended the University of Iowa for a year, followed by Gates Business College where she studied bookkeeping. She married Ernest Eugene Gebhardt on April 10, 1965, in Minneapolis.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest, in 1978; her grandson, John Ray Fankhauser, Jr. and a niece, Corrine Kaye Lindell. She is survived by her children: Tonya Gebhardt of Waterloo, Matt (Kirsten) Gebhardt of both Florida and Georgia, and Pam (Bryan) Banser of Cedar Falls; 6 grandchildren: Michael, Nathan, John, Andrew, Samantha and Benjamin; honorary grandchildren, Alex and Cody Wallbaum; honorary great-grandchildren, Daniel Lovell and Autumn Locke; and 2 brothers, Galen (Jackie) Lindell of Greene and Richard (Amy) Lindell of Waverly.
Jeanette's Visitation will be from 4-6:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 2025, and one hour prior to the Funeral Service which will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, both at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery of Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
Jeanette suffered greatly from allergies from a young age which led to two of her lifelong passions: 1) horses, the only animal that didn't cause allergy symptoms and 2) reading, because books allowed her to do things and go places in her mind that her body couldn't tolerate. She particularly enjoyed Louis L'amour Western and Christian fiction books. Jeanette loved to cheer her two favorite football teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings. She was a good cook and that legacy lives on through Tonya who has mastered her meatloaf and pumpkin bar recipes. Jeanette liked to play cards with "up and down the river" as a favorite game that she generally won. Above all, she will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.
