Jean Ripplinger, 80, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Jean was born March 18, 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Joseph and Mildred (Marson) Durchenwald. She married William "Bill" Ripplinger on May 24, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. He preceded her in death September 22, 2013. Jean worked at Rath Packing Company and St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she was Adult Religious Education Coordinator, as well as working for several other church organizations. She was also a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. She is survived by two sons, Mark Ripplinger and Scott Edward Ripplinger, both of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Sally JoAnn Ripplinger and Mary Friedrich, both of Cedar Falls, and Cathy (Art) Chase, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Andy Friedrich of Cedar Falls, David (Julia) Chase of Chula Vista, California, and Nicole and Allison Chase, both of Omaha. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son-in-law, Terry Friedrich. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
