JEAN MARKS DOBSON, 72, of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Tucson, Arizona, and formerly of Cedar Falls, died of natural causes on Friday, July 6, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born March 16, 1935 in Rockwell City, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Leta (Hinckley) Marks. Jean married Richard Dobson on August 8, 1955 in Central City, Colorado. She was a 1952 graduate of University High School in Iowa City, Iowa and attended the University of Iowa. Jean was Vice President of American Financial Management, a family business, and was active in education, volunteering as a teaching assistant at Cedar Heights Elementary School in Cedar Falls. She was very active in civic affairs in Black Hawk County. Jean was a member of Junior League of Black Hawk County, and was a board member of several organizations, including Black Hawk County United Way, Goodwill Industries, and the Black Hawk County Volunteer board. She co-chaired the Festival 76 committee which founded the first Sturgis Falls Days celebration in Cedar Falls. She was also active in community and charitable organizations in Tucson, Arizona.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Dobson, Sr., of Spirit Lake and Tucson, Arizona; two sons, Richard (Jill) Dobson, Jr. and Andrew (Laura) Dobson, both of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Deborah Sue Dobson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Sandra (Glen) Henry of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Jon Marks, and a sister, Joan Hoover.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5 - 7:30 pm Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to the Jean Marks Dobson Memorial Fund c/o of Community National Bank, 312 W. 1st Street, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.
