Janice Kay Parsons

Janice Kay Parsons, 73, of Janesville, Iowa, died Sunday, April 23, 2017. She was born June 2, 1943 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Jean (Caley) Stokes. Janice married Edward Parsons on May 30, 1975 at Janesville United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2009. Janice was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and Pitzes Beauty School. She was a cosmetologist for 28 years, retiring in 1989. Janice enjoyed traveling with her husband for his work and loved their lake home in Arkansas until their retirement. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, but also supported UNI because her grandson Clay was on the wrestling team.

Janice is survived by her two daughters, Sara (Jeff) Smead of Grabill, Indiana and Faith (Doug) Higdon of Hoagland, Indiana; her son-in-law, Ron Welter, of Gilbertville, Iowa; six grandchildren, Clay Welter, Bryant Smead, Nicholas (Haley) Smead, Madison Smead, Nathan (Carrie) Higdon and Kayla (Paul) Reidhaar; three great grandchildren, Sophia Smead, Hayden Higdon and Chance Gumm, and her sister, Pam (Joel) Wood, of Janesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her daughter, Amy Jo Welter, and her brother, Edward Stokes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Cedar Falls. Burial will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, at a later date. Visitation will be 4—7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church.
