James L. Baumeister, 77, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 6, 2014, at his home. He was born October 29, 1936 in Watauga, South Dakota, the son of Leo and Florentine (Erz) Baumeister. Jim married Jean Barnes September 26, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Jim worked for A. J. Fuller Construction of New York and other construction companies. In 1969 he began working for Barnes Lumber, Cedar Falls. Jim was an active volunteer for Allen Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Jean Baumeister, of Cedar Falls; one son, Steven (Beth) Baumeister, of Waukee, Iowa; two daughters, Stephanie Lickteig of Clive, Iowa and Melissa (Erik) Breddin of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren, Courtney (Bryan) Mann, Caitlin, Joseph, and Steven Lickteig, Ashleigh Baumeister, Jessica (Adam) Vaught, Scott and Noah Baumeister, and Adriana and Jasmyn Breddin. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Raymond, Buelis, Edwin, and Norman Baumeister. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, and one hour before service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Allen Memorial Hospital Volunteers.
