Iona Laura Christiansen

Iona Laura Christiansen, 66, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 29, 2018.  Visitation for Iona will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with a private graveside service at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

Iona was born August 11, 1951 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Erik and Laura Christiansen.

She grew up on a farm near Dike.  Iona was home schooled by her mother and excelled at spelling, reading and U.S. History.  Her father mentored her on the amateur radio and she memorized numerous operator call signs.

Iona enjoyed annual fishing trips to Minnesota with her parents, her loving Aunt Alma and Uncle Harry Johnson and her Uncle Arthur Christensen.  Her favorite vacation spot was Branson, Missouri.

Iona's parents passed away in the 1980's.  This ushered in new experiences for Iona.  They included the services of Exceptional Persons, Inc., Newel Post, and most recently Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

She loved the many special people who cared for her.  Her favorite activities included: crafts, games (especially Bingo), watching movies, going for rides, spending time with her guardians and stopping for a burger, soda and ice cream.

She is survived by her guardians, Reardon and Jill Fisher and their family, and many friends and caregivers.

Special thanks to UnityPoint ER, ICU and UnityPoint Hospice and the staff and residents of Cedar Falls Health Care Center for their outstanding care in the final days of Iona's life.
