Hubert Charles Gaard

Hubert Gaard, 90, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.  He was born August 23, 1931, in Hardin County, son of Homer Magnus and Hazel (Christian) Gaard.  Hubert graduated from Radcliffe High School with the Class of 1949.  He married Nancy Ann Mason at the Methodist Church in Radcliffe, Iowa, on November 11, 1951.  Hubert served in the United States Marine Corp from February of 1952 until February 1954. He worked for John Deere retiring in 1987 when he went full-time with his carpentry. Hubert is survived by his son, Jay (Barb) Gaard of Cedar Falls; daughter-in-law, Peggy Peterson Gaard of Kansas City, MO; and 2 granddaughters, Emily Ann & Holly Jo Gaard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; son, Jeff; a sister, K. Romaine (Lester) Ritland; a brother, Kay (Floramae) Gaard; and a loving four-legged companion, his Cocker Spaniel, "Coco".

Hubert's Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with Visitation beginning at 12:30 pm.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corp Funeral Honor Detail and the Cedar Falls AMVETS 49.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and condolences can be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .

Hubert and Nancy enjoyed many Sunday afternoon drives with one another.  Both proud Norwegians, they enjoyed taking their granddaughters to Story City to see the carousel and museum, in addition to other adventures.  Emily and Holly received lovingly prepared care packages from their grandparents filled with Hallmark and hand-crafted holiday decorations to encourage them during their college years.  Hubert will be dearly missed by all who know and love him.
