Hiram Smith, 84, of Denver, Colorado and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Exempla St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Hiram was born April 6, 1924 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of William & Jennie (Van Heuvelen) Smith. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. Hiram married Catherine Chandler. She preceded him in death in September 1998. He was employed as a painter and retired in 1986.
Survivors include his sister, Ida Bisbee, of Cedar Falls. Hiram was preceded in death by his parents and wife; one son, Robert Hile; one brother, Koert Smith; and two sisters, Jane Smith and Frances Troutfetter.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 9:30 to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
