Hilma Marie Schimmels, 95, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa. She was born September 17, 1920 in rural Cedar Falls, the daughter of Hans C. and Emma (Nielsen) Petersen. Hilma married Fred Schimmels on February 18, 1944 in Parma, Idaho. He preceded her in death on October 5, 1986. Hilma graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School and attended Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa. She worked at Sartori Memorial Hospital, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, Plastronics in Grundy Center and retired in 1985 from the University of Northern Iowa after 17 years of service.
Hilma is survived by her son, Clifford (Joyce) Schimmels, of Denver, Iowa; her daughter, Sandra (Douglas) Patrie, of Clarksville, Iowa; a son-in-law, Kenny (Doreen) Weber, of Albertville, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Schimmels, of Cresco, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, Darrel Schimmels; a daughter, Marie Weber; a grandson, Jerry Schimmels, and a brother, Harold Petersen and his wife Elna.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
