Herman Merle Bohlen, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. He was born July 5, 1937 in Dumont, IA, the son of August and Trena (Bengen) Bohlen. Herman married Lois Kaye Kinseth on October 18, 1967 in Galena, IL. She preceded him in death in 2007. Herman worked at Rath Packing Company for 29 years and John Deere Tractor Works. He was an excavation contractor for over 45 years, owned Bohlen Construction and was a homebuilder for many years. Herman was a member of the Gideons ministry and an active servant of the Lord. He earned the distinction of Master Plumber, enjoyed motorcycling, RVing, camping and restoring old cars. Herman also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his five daughters, Sheila Bohlen of Cedar Falls, Deb Knudsen of Corona, CA, Shelly (Tony) Lindquist of Minneapolis, MN, Teri (Lance) Folkerts of Boerne, TX & Kris (Brook) Klunder of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Alyse (Jara) Harris, Erica (Brad) Dickerman, Whitney (Chris) Novak, Tyler (Megan) Folkerts, Noah (Becca) Klunder, Owen, Sara & Vada Klunder; eight great grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Virginia Bohlen, of Waterloo.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife and parents; five brothers, Harland, Gordon, August Jr., Clarence & William Bohlen, and three sisters, Loretta Viet, Elsie Werkman and one in infancy.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Bethany Bible Chapel in Cedar Falls. A Celebration of Life Party will be 5—8:00 p.m. Friday, December 10, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Turkey Hill Ranch Bible Camp in Vienna, MO or UnityPoint Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
